History

Portersville Christian School began after Rev. Joseph Morris, pastor of the Portersville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, shared his desire with the congregation to provide Christian education for the children of the church and the surrounding area. With Rev. Morris serving as Principal and Mrs. Morris teaching kindergarten, twenty-four students in grades one through six attended the newly opened school in the fall of 1963, classes being held in the basement of the church. Every year after that a grade was added as the oldest class moved up.

The school continued to grow and, in 1969, a separate building was constructed on a 17-acre property behind the church with the help of parents and student volunteers. The first commencement was held in 1970 when the oldest class reached twelfth grade. Sensing God’s leading and seeing the blessings of student growth, a gymnasium was built in 1977 at the end of the school building. As the sports program grew, the Lord provided the means for a soccer field in the lower area of the school property and, finally, a full-size gymnasium was built as a separate building in 1994.

Over the next three years, the old gymnasium was renovated into ten classrooms, a lunchroom, kitchen, faculty lounge, science lab, computer lab, and library. In 1997, the school received accreditation by the Middle States Association of Colleges and School and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). More recently, a Fine Arts workshop was added to the end of the gymnasium in 2004. And, in 2007, the school earned re-accreditation from the ACSI and Middle States Association.

God continues to bless PCS, and development continues under the direction of the Head Administrator and current School Board. To accommodate student growth in the elementary grades, four modular classrooms were put into service in the fall of 2008.
In May of 2014, PCS celebrated 50 years of Christian education. Current and former faculty and classmates attended the sold out event.
